Baseball Hall of Fame

Who else agrees that the Baseball Hall of Fame writers should not have the final say in electing players to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown? It would be logical to allow a committee of Baseball Hall of Fame inductees and owners of Major League Baseball to partake in the election process!

A View From a Bridge

I recently went to see a broadway play in the Cort Theatre on 48th St. called 'A View from the Bridge' starring Scarlett Johansson & Liev Schreiber. It's an original playwright written by Arthur Miller. The play is about Eddie Carbone played by Liev Schreiber, a Red Hook-Brooklyn dock worker who maintains a comfortable life with his wife, Beatrice & niece, Catherine(played by Scarlett Johansson). All things seem peachy until Beatrice's cousin, Marco decides to flee Italy to live & work in New York to make more money for his family in hopes to also stay with the Carbone's. Meanwhile, Eddie has a secret crush on his 17 year old niece & things get pretty interesting when Catherine falls in love with Marco's brother, Rodolpho also from Italy.
It's been a long hiatus since I've seen a Broadway play, definetly more than a decade. I think the last play I've seen was 'Crazy for You'. It's great to be back on Broadway! Check it, Check it out! A View from the Bridge that is! Scarlett Johansson & Liev Schreiber were great!

Free Korean Movies every other Tuesdays!

Thanks to the Korean Cultural Service, they have announced that they're going to be screening free Korean movies every other Tuesday down at the Tribeca Cinemas from January 12, 2010 to December 14, 2010. (54 Varick Street, on the corner of Canal Street, one block from the A, C, E and 1 train Canal Street stops).

First up is the hard-drinking, low budget festival favorite comedy, DAYTIME DRINKING on Tuesday, January 12 at 7pm !

bicyclist killed on Delancey Street

A bicyclist was killed riding on Delancey Street by Ludlow on January 5th around 4:30PM. She was being followed by an aggressive bus driver then hit a pot hole which made her lose control & crash. The bus then hit her. What's up with these aggressive tri-state drivers who do not give a shit about another person's life? People in our area who drive in cages seem to be so disconnected with having the qualities of a human. Where is the compassion? Where is the courtesy & respect of others? To put it simply, most of the drivers in the city are animals. You get a feeling that most of these numbnut drivers would probably do a hit & run on anybody & wouldn't give a two hoots about it. Be careful when you walk & bike in the city, kids. If you have an aggressive, overzealous driver trailing you, pull over to a safe place & let the fucker pass you. Hopefully, they don't run over their own kids.

Nick Johnson to the Yankees?!

Just heard some rumblings last night that the New York Yankees are close to signing a 1 year deal with their former prospect & Yankee hand, Nick Johnson. I was a big proponent of Nick Johnson when he was coming up through the ranks with the Yankees playing for the Columbus Clippers, but being injury prone was the major 'achilles heal' of Nick's career up to this point. Nick really reminded me of Don Mattingly with his style of play both defensively & his batting style. Even Donny baseball made the comment that Nick J has the makings of being a batting champion if he can remain healthy. Johnson also has great baseball chromosomes in his family with his uncle being Larry Bowa. NJ was supposed to be the heir to Tino Martinez but Jason Giambino soon took that role if you can remember or forget, I should say. What Nick presents to the Yankees at this current time is great on base percentage, a familiarity in donning pinstripes, & being a crafty hitter that sprays his hits to all fields. Wouldn't Johnson make a great 2nd hole hitter behind Jeter? With the on base percentages of Jeter,Johnson, & Nick Swisher, TEX & Arod would have a field day with RBI's! Nobody can ever replace the man from Japan in the clutch as Matsui, but Nick Johnson sure does make it sound interesting on paper. Now, let's hope Nick Johnson doesn't sneeze the wrong way or else, he might crack a few ribs & call it a career!

"Art of the Samurai:Japanese Arms & Armor 1156-1868 Exhibition" @ the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC

For the avid fans of the Samurai, there is an exhibition called the "Art of the Samurai" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City running until January 10,2010. The exhibit contains a massive exhibit of samurai hardware from the period of 1156-1868. That covers a tremendous time period in history including the warring state years of the late 1500's in Japan!
So, get in the spirit of the Seven Samurai & Zatoichi and don't let the chance of seeing the spirit of what these warriors in Japan represented during the fuedal times in the land of the rising sun!

Vivian Girls @ Death By Audio in Brooklyn 12.12.09

The Vivian Girls played @ Death by Audio in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn on December 12th,2009. I'm beginning to really dig this venue! It's a cool,unpretentious music hall that is no-frills as can be with friendly & laid back peeps running the show. The Vivian Girls were also great that night! It was Yellow Fever's record release night with their laid back self. The Vivian Girls are a trio of kickass throwback chics playing their brand of surf tunes! VG's sound like an eclectic mix of 60's girl bands,with a sparkle of hippie surf music,& a touch of the Ramones with some reverb feedback! Check out some of my vids of the Vivian Girls that night! It was Allison Weiss's CD release party for her 2nd album! Get her new album 'Allison Weiss was right all along' & her debut album of 'Allison Weiss & the way she likes it! Bess Rogers was really good, too! I discovered Bess Rogers when she was backing up Ingrid Michaelson @ Webster Hall. Bess has a great voice in her own right! I got her to sign my CD copy of her EP "Travel Back".
